i am definitely open to selling this for what i can get for it and buying an even better one.wickedsmaht wrote:DrugsToGetBig wrote:ryzen 5 2600x. although, i have a ryzen 9 5900x sitting here unopened. Going to build a new pc soon.

radeon 590
going to see what roughly $2k will get me. hopefully something fairly decent since i already have a processor and can splurge on a higher end gpu
5900x is a decent processor
any chance you can return though? 7800x3d seems goat on the amd side
i've been sitting on this for a few years now and i know it's not the greatest

Any chance you can wait till like Q1 2025? Save up extra money and make it $2500-3000? Next gen Intel CPUs and NVIDIA GPUs should be out near or before then. You'd either A) get to buy current gen parts for cheaper (especially in the used market, but also some extra sales/deals)... or B) get to buy the next gen parts for better longevity.

yes, that's not a problem at all. when in q1 2025 do you expect the new generation to be out and on sale?Visel wrote:DrugsToGetBig wrote:ryzen 5 2600x. although, i have a ryzen 9 5900x sitting here unopened. Going to build a new pc soon.

Intel's new CPU should be in a couple of months from now (October-Decemberish).
Nvidia's new GPU is speculated for after CES 2025, so later January or sometime around February.

if that's the case man i'll just wait until the new year and see what amd puts out. i'm an amd fan boy and won't be caught dead with intel after the shit i've seen recently with them. thanks for the info!

Well depends, are you trying to be budget friendly or just get the latest gear? If it was me, I would update the bios in the b450 and chill with it. Save up money and get the newest crap a couple of years down the line.

The latest gen AMD CPU (Ryzen 9000 series) literally just came out in August 2024, and it was only marginally better than the Ryzen 7000 series. Unfortunately Intel's 13th/14th are still faster (despite the latest issues of course). The Intel 15th gen will have a significant dye shrinkage (from 7nm down to 2-3nm), and it looks like it might pull an NVIDIA in regards to the CPU market, by being leaps ahead again.
So don't expect another AMD CPU generation to come out for a number of years srs. But you can look forward to the next gen AMD GPUs though.

Will probably skip the Blackwell cards but buy Nvidia's next line or maybe the one after, depending on if there are any great demanding games that come out.

Waiting for new 7 days to die update to get crossplay so I can play on PC with my friend who is on Xbox.
Didn't know about that at all. Don't think I've had any crashing issues yet (other than WWE 2k24 but that was due to mod compatibility) but some popup comes up most times I shut down my PC. It goes away faster than I can read what it says though.
I didn't really have a choice with this PC. My old PC basically died so I had to buy one. If I was going to build one I would have had to wait longer for parts and then probably a couple weeks for my friend to be able to help me assemble everything, and I couldn't be without a PC for that long. Plus I priced it and it would have cost me a good chunk more to buy an equivalent PC to the prebuilt I bought. Was leaning toward going AMD but there were very few options in the 1500-2200 price range I was looking at.
I appreciate the info man. So basically just update Bios and keep recommended Intel settings with no OC? I watched the video but didn't see a stickied Reddit thread for the issue just their monthly general tech support thread.

Re: what's your gaming setup?
So I updated my Bios and ran Cinebench single core benchmark for my CPU. Temps were reasonable, max they got to was 75* C. Voltage was usually over 1.3 though, sometimes over 1.4. Maximum was 1.522. Should I consider lowering voltage in the bios?

Yes absolutely, this page says the 5900X is supported: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B450-TOMAHAWK/support#cpucuminmebro wrote:DrugsToGetBig wrote:ryzen 5 2600x. although, i have a ryzen 9 5900x sitting here unopened. Going to build a new pc soon.

It says you need BIOS 7C02v1I.zip

Thats assuming you are running the B450 Tomahawk, not the Tomahawk Max or Max II.

Yeah I'm new to monitoring voltage but all the videos I've watched on this issue they don't like when it gets near 1.5. I was able to lower the voltage in my bios, I think it was under Vcore setting or something. Anyway the default was 1.2 and I was able to lower it to 1.185. I'm about to run benchmarks again to see what the difference is.

Re: what's your gaming setup?
Put it on adaptive Vcore at 1.900 or 1.950.
First test was max voltage 1.507 average 1.377. Second test was max voltage 1.522 average 1.383. Max temps were 69* C core temp and 76* C TjMax (not sure what that one is) both times and averages were around 34* core and 66* TjMax. Again I don't like the voltage getting that high but I'm hoping I'll be alright if the temps stay in this range.
